Having a good idea is one thing and getting it to market is another. The starting point is the development of a good specification. However, what is entailed in the generation of a good specification and how do you know your specification covers every aspect of the design?

 

If you are a non-technology company the generation of a specification can be daunting. Often a DIY specification will be very basic and open to exploitation by unscrupulous design companies who can twist your specification around their little finger in full knowledge that you are not in a position to question their judgement.

When reality hits and the product is found to be lacking, the extras “not in the original specification” will attract a surcharge sometimes doubling the original design cost and leading to considerable time slippage and disappointment .
