Obtaining Grants

There are many published opportunities for obtaining business grants. However, the truth behind many of these grants is that some can cost you more than you actually gain, others can expose you to IP loss and others because of small print never materialise due to a number of exclusion clauses which virtually exclude everyone it seems except the Ministers son’s business from applying!

 

In fact there are some fantastic grants available throughout Europe. Some are local community level and others are National. Applying for a grant can be quite daunting and will require perseverance. You will also have to demonstrate financial and technical ability and stand up to independent audits so finding a grant for a start-up is even more challenging.

 

Obtaining a grant will cost money up front – this is often never mentioned. However, your time is money and a day filling in forms and attending meetings can be costly as you are away from the “coal face”. There is no certainty in grants and many have a sliding percentage where you have to provide the other percentage of funding (back to back). Do you have that funding?
